A slots tournament? What’s that all about?

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

When you walk up to a slot machine in a casino or log into an online casino and play the slots, you start a battle between you and the machine. Actually, even if you’re a experienced player, the machine will almost always come out ahead over the long term. That’s the way casinos make a profit. But for fun, you can sign up for a tournament where you’re playing against the other players. In the real world, one of the current tournaments is running at Cache Creek Casino in Brooks (Yolo County), for the next six weeks (it finishes at midnight on the 19th June).

Like most real-world tournaments, the casino has corralled a number of machines and members of the local slots club are rotated in every fifteen minutes to play for three minutes. The player who racks up the biggest score in those three minutes will be the winner. The total prize money fund is $200,000 with everyone in the top fifty winning at least $1,000.

Online, the same principles apply. Whoever enters the tournament is given a preset number of credits and a fixed time. The winner is the one who has the biggest total at the end of the allocated time. Some tournaments are free or by invitation - they are usually ways in which casinos reward the regulars who have a good spend online. The others have an entry fee. It is customary to return most of the stake money as prizes. This differs from the real world where the players may get other comps like drinks, meals or subsidised rooms in the hotel to offset any reduction in the prize money.

If you cannot cope with your credits in the time, you are not going to win unless you are lucky enough to get some good scores. Always check the pay table before you start and make sure you aim for the best paying combinations. That means it’s all down to concentration and fast reflexes. As soon as you see the draw, you must be hitting the holds and draw button. If you slow down, you lose.Obviously, if you have never tried a slots tournament, the best way to find out whether you enjoy one is to enter one that is free. Whatever the time allocated, you must make sure you use all the credits you are given. The winner will have used all his or her credits, made the best decisions on holds, and been lucky with the draws.

This high pressure may not be for you. If you’re playing for fun, this may be taking life too seriously. But if you do want to improve your skills, playing a tournament or two will get the adrenaline running and build up your speed and accuracy.

Video poker machines are a con

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

pay a little attention to video poker machines lurking in the corner of land-based casinos where the local gambling ordinances permit them. They are there to take the hard-earned dollars from suckers. They play to the greed, the get-rich-quick in the poor saps who can’t resist them. . . Sore losers. . . Everyday you hear them sobbing about lost money and still see them coming back to the machines. There’s only one thing you can say about these people. They have worked out the one important feature of the machines. Casino always win. No matter where you go in the casino world, whether its to some swanky place or online, the paytables are set in a way that gives the House a mathematical advantage. Then those streaks will go cold. That’s just the way statistics work their way to the one mathematical certainty. The House will win in the end. So don’t understand those poor people wrong. There’s no need for the House to rig the machines. The casino operators are going to win in the long term without having to cheat. There’s no way they will spoil a sure thing by risking detection as a fraud by regulators.

A way to two jackpots

Over in Louisiana, there’s a small and unremarkable community called Ventress. It sits in Pointe Coupee Parish. Pass down Main Street to False River Drive and you’ve missed it. Except there’s been a dareful crime. It was very curious and movie-like, but the fact that it took place is still presents. Just two guys who stole two video poker machines. This small town did never knew the big crimes. But this day cameras’ve sought some. The bad guys pulled up outside the Waterloo Exxon and Daiquiris Shop in their Chevy truck. For those of you who don’t know Ventress, that’s right next to the levee on the corner. Now these two climb out wearing masks - shows foresight and planning. The smaller had a problems with leg, but this didn’t confused him. The big guy (local CSI have him wearing a size 13 boot which matches his impressive build) smashes through the glass frontage like it was a movie set fake. Now that’s impressive. Each video poker machine comes in at a slimline 300 pounds but these two heroes exit their truck and drive away with the two machines in the back in 33 seconds. That’s 33 seconds!!! We’d like to be able to say these robbers peeled the machines open with their bare hands, but they used sledgehammers. A little bit of cheating and they have became a milliinaires. So if you meet a small guy with biceps to die for and a limp in a bar down in Louisiana, he’s buying the next round.

To anyone who is considering playing slots in house or slots online, I say go for it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain from being an everyday person just like me who likes to play slots!

The first time I stepped into a casino, I had no clue on what to do or where to go. The action was happening all around me. It wasn’t until I was attracted to the slots machines that I understood where I had to be. The cha-ching noise it made and the busy crowds that surrounded it all made sense. Slots were the games to play. So play I did. In my first few moments, I racked up bonuses like you wouldn’t believe. I always bet max bet because I had heard from a friend that that was the way to go when looking for a larger payout. Soon enough, I was winner! When I play slots, I see the amount of variety offered. The slots bonuses are always amazing! There are so many different themes available and it is always nice to watch other players win money from playing free slots. I can tell these players practice from their own slots online games.
